Fish, curry and beer all on the menu for Lions
Following another successful Fishing Festival this January, Meon Valley Lions were delighted to attend the recent prize night of the Ford Sports and Social Club Sea Angling Club at their clubhouse in Southampton. The charity fishing competition is now in its 36th year and the monies raised from the event have traditionally gone to The Naomi House children's hospice charity in Winchester. The Lions have been able to help generate a further £1,600 from this year's festival and through the valuable support of the Transport and General Workers Union, have brought the total raised since the event began to £28,100.
At the prize-giving, event organiser Peter Oates and Lion Ron Wilson presented the cheque to Naomi House area representative Mary Rochford. Expressing her gratitude to the Ford Sea Angling Club, Mary commented that she could think of no other organisation on the south coast that had consistently contributed so much money to the charity, over such an extended period. Well done lads!

Meanwhile in March, we attended a Quiz and Curry night in Wickham held to promote the upcoming Wickham Beer Festival. Once again we will be putting on one of our famous barbeques at the festival to help lay a foundation for all the wonderful real ales that will be on sale. Don't forget that this Beer Festival is a charity event and has previously raised huge sums for local groups. So if ale is your tipple and you want to indulge your pleasure whilst also raising money for good causes, put the Wickham Beer Festival in your diary now. It's on Saturday 16th April and full details can be found at the festival's website: www.wickhambeerfestival.co.uk
Message in a bottle - update
We previously published information on the Lions' Message in a Bottle scheme which allows emergency services arriving on an emergency call to quickly determine whether a person has a medical condition or is on special medication. We are pleased to announce that new Message in a Bottle dispenser packs have now been placed in Boots, Bishops Waltham and the Wickham and Droxford surgeries where you can pick up your Message in a Bottle FREE. These bottles are also available in this area via Carers Together.
200 Club
The winner of the February Lions Supporters Club 200 club draw was Mrs C of Swanmore, winning £70 for a one pound monthly contribution. This charity draw also has an annual prize of £400 and with a maximum of 199 other people taking part, the odds of you winning are much better than the lottery! Also, you can feel good about the fact that all the money not allocated to prizes, goes to charity. If you would like to buy a monthly ticket call John Campbell on 01489 891838
