Meon Valley Lions is a local club that is part of a network of Lions Clubs international with over 1.35 million volunteer members around the world. Although we perform community service in 209 countries and geographic areas that are different in so many ways, we share a core belief that community is what we make it.

The focus of our charitable work is therefore the local community. If you’re an individual who needs support through a difficult period in your life, you need assistance to purchase specialist equipment to overcome disability, or a helping hand for your youngsters on a specific project, we can help both financially and in other practical ways. We also support clubs, hospices, organisations and other local charities to help them fulfil their objectives and support programmes in their communities. You’ll find examples of the kind of work we’ve undertaken on the news pages on this website.

What we tend not to do is support large national charities targeting specific diseases or deprivation, or international charities delivering support and aid to crisis areas around the world. That’s not to say that we won’t support a national charity with a local initiative involving a person or group in our own area.

From time to time we do contribute sums of money to support global disaster relief programmes such as the Far East Tsunami, when the monies from Lions around the world are funnelled through Lions International into local Lions clubs, who know what’s really needed on the ground.

We consider every application we receive carefully, but the decision to support any group or individual is governed by the community approach we’ve just described.
